Of course we, as specialists in getting people ‘found for what they do where’, also began an old school Yellow Pages journey. Back then it was still queried as to whether people needed a website. Digital cameras I believe had only began to exist and photos were scanned.
"My Clients didn't know half of what we offered"
Around 8 years in to building Vector7, I think 16 years ago, we produced one of our first fire and security websites for Kelly Wardeau MD of Automatic Security. Later, with him in a group at a security conference he spoke about his website. Upon the launch of the new site, he said he immediately began to get Fire enquiries. It was a simple matter of clients seeing what he did in detail. Big pictures and words helped too! They thought he was just security. It made a big difference.
Since that moment many years ago I have planned for many companies to work with their websites.
We specialise in SEO for Fire and Security companies. SEO is a term we in-house do not like to use. It implies that websites we build are not already described to search engines to define what a company does where.
So many angles were born. Google Pay Per Click, as it was then was pence, little clicked upon and not paid for by our clients. Top of the page became a coined term and we looked at traffic, entry key phrases, pondered data, found client too busy to talk and we reach out to new clients evolving gradually as specialists across decades.
The multi-million-pound question, very weirdly little asked, is: ‘What did you learn?’ What became apparent to me as an evolving consultant, work hard, don’t wing it. Build. So we put in over two hundred man years to build a network. We kept studying. The Search Engines evolved and as Google and Vector7 were born together, our story is tied to theirs. Trusting a 20 year evolving network is the digital air Google breathes, stores, reflects upon itself and moves forward.
What did you learn about people? Their action? Their needs from their searches and the solutions your clients provided? Well it became a love story. I in particular had to learn what made people tick. What made engineers smile and what MDs would do to help in order to be the chosen one from page one. Thinking, thinking and thinking, then all the passion in the world to make things happen for our clients. That is why the stay with us. Results from passionate, thoughtful words and images delivered to their prospects and dragging them to a phone or a form or an email.
